How many nodes?
- Under 139 m²: one good router
– 1,500 to 279 m²: two nodes
– Over 279 m² or three floors: three nodes
Wi-Fi 6, 6E or 7?
Wi-Fi 6 handles plans up to about 1 Gbps. Wi-Fi 6E adds a less crowded 6 GHz band for newer devices. Wi-Fi 7 is worth it only for multi-gig fibre and the newest phones and laptops.
Wired backhaul
If your home has Ethernet in the walls, connect the nodes with cables. Wired backhaul makes mesh much faster and more stable.
Subscriptions and security
Many brands offer optional security subscriptions. The basic network works without them, so decide if parental controls and threat blocking are worth a monthly fee.

Frequently asked questions
Where should I put mesh nodes?
In open spots about halfway between the main router and the dead zone, not inside cabinets or behind TVs.
Will mesh slow down my internet?
Wireless hops can reduce speed slightly. Wired backhaul or tri-band models minimise the loss.
Should I buy a modem too?
Only if your provider charges you to rent one and you have cable internet. Fibre usually includes an ONT you keep.
